Mass grave of 25 Ethiopian refugees discovered in Malawi Mass grave of 25 Ethiopian refugees discovered in Malawi

Police officers in Malawi have discovered a mass grave containing 25 suspected Ethiopian refugees. The bodies were exhumed on Wednesday in Mzimba County in the north of the country, police spokesman Peter Kalaya said.

Residents had discovered the grave the day before on the edge of a forest. “Evidence gathered at the crime scene shows that the victims are Ethiopians,” Kalaya said without giving further details.

A small country in southern Africa, Malawi’s porous borders make it a popular route for refugees and other migrants hoping for a better future in South Africa.

According to police statistics, a large part of the people came from Ethiopia this year. The country on the Horn of Africa has been in a civil war for almost two years. (sda/dpa)
