Mass protests in Madrid against the amnesty law

Nails 170,000 people, according to the Government delegation, million According to the organizers, they attended a mass rally against law on amnesty presented by Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE)which will benefit those involved in the Catalan independence process.

It is convened by civil society organizations, under the motto “Not in my name: neither amnesty nor self-determination”among the crowds that gathered at midday in the central capital’s Plaza de Cibeles was the leader of the conservatives People’s Party (PP), Alberto Núñez Feijóoand that of the extreme right Vox, Santiago Abascal.

Núñez Feijóo asked the Prime Minister, a socialist Pedro Sánchez“not to build walls” or “play with coexistence” and believes that Spain is experiencing a “complicated moment for democracy”.

In addition, he accused Sánchez of committing “fraud” and “disgrace” with the amnesty bill registered in Congress and allowing him to be sworn in as prime minister.

For his part, Abascal denounced the amnesty law as the “consummation” of the coup that had already begun with Sánchez’s pact with “all the enemies of Spain” and called for “continuation of resistance” through a “coordinated institutional response” in those regions without a “coup majority”. – The PP rules in 12 out of 17 Spanish regions, in six of them with the support of Vox, and in addition it has an absolute majority in the Senate.

With shouts of “traitor”, referring to the Prime Minister and surrounded by the flags of Spain and the European Union, the protesters filled the Plaza de Cibeles and its entrances to the rhythm of songs like ‘My beloved Spain’, by Cecilius, ‘Libertad son of Ira’, by the Jarch group; or ‘Mediterranean’, Joan Manuel Serrat.

In the same square, you could buy Spanish flags at a price of 5 euros for the small one and 10 for the largest one.

The protests are taking place after Sánchez was sworn in as prime minister this week by votes from pro-Catalan independence parties, making amnesty a condition for support, and when a bill on the matter has already been registered in Congress. socialist party.

Numerous civil society associations have invited citizens to participate in this call before a “serious crossroads”.

The conveners claim that the PSOE has “abandoned its duty to defend the constitutional order” and that it is doing so, moreover, in “close alliance with the enemies of the nation”, with whom it is preparing to approve laws, such as amnesty, “impossible to fit” into the Constitution “in exchange for staying in power”.

This protest joins the one already called by the PP last Sunday in the capitals of Spain and which gathered hundreds of thousands of people, which must be added to the daily concentrations that have been held for 15 days in front of the headquarters of the Socialists in different cities in Spain, highlighting Madrid, where most of the time end in violent incidents between ultra groups and the police.
