Climate activists again defaced the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin with orange paint on Thursday. As the Last Generation group announced Thursday, members used paintbrushes to color the west side of the March 18 Square.

The Berlin police reported on X, formerly Twitter, that two climate activists had been arrested.
The Brandenburg Gate is currently being prepared for cleaning work on the east side at Pariser Platz following an earlier paint attack by the group. Police arrested fourteen climate activists in the first attack in mid-September. In total, the work must cost at least 115,000 euros (about 111,000 francs).
The Brandenburg Gate is a landmark of Berlin and a German national symbol. It was built at the end of the 18th century according to designs by the architect Carl Gotthard Langhans. It is modeled after the Propylaea on the Acropolis in Athens. It was built on the then western city limits; today it is located in the middle of the fast-growing German capital. During the partition it was located directly behind the Berlin Wall in the Soviet sector of the city.
