As Sotoudeh’s husband Resa Chandan wrote on X, she was released on bail on Wednesday ahead of a hearing. Chandan and the NGO also released a photo showing Sotoudeh with three men and without a headscarf.

Sotoudeh was arrested at the end of October at the funeral of Iranian Armita Garawand, who fell into a coma and died last month after an alleged confrontation with the notorious vice police. According to the Fars news agency, Sotoudeh is accused of violating the obligation to wear a headscarf at the funeral.

Sotoudeh, 60, is considered one of the most influential lawyers in Iran. In 2020 she received the Alternative Nobel Prize. Sotoudeh has been imprisoned several times in recent years and has spent years behind bars.
