Switzerland is also affected: Strike in Germany continues – Bahn advises not to travel Yes, comparisons with fascism are frowned upon – but Trump’s statements on Veterans Day…

Following the start of a 20-hour warning strike, the railway has asked its passengers to avoid or postpone non-essential travel this Thursday. “The GDL strike is causing enormous disruption to all long-distance and regional traffic,” the railway announced early Thursday morning. If you still have to travel, check the railway information media shortly before departure. The emergency timetable for passenger transport has come into effect.

The German Locomotive Drivers’ Union (GDL) has largely paralyzed train traffic across the country since Wednesday evening with a 20-hour warning strike. The GDL announced the official end of the warning strike at 6 p.m. on Thursday. Deutsche Bahn assumes that regional trains will not run in some regions. S-Bahn traffic in larger cities is also affected. In long-distance transport, the group expects that more than 80 percent of all ICE and IC trains will be canceled. The consequences will probably also be far-reaching in freight transport.

Switzerland was also affected

As the SBB reports, cross-border trains between Switzerland and Germany are also affected by the strike. All passengers who want to postpone a trip scheduled for Thursday, November 16, 2023 due to the GDL strike can use their ticket at a later time, the SBB writes. The train connection has now been discontinued. The ticket is valid for the journey to the original destination, even if the route is changed.

It is the first industrial action by the GDL in the ongoing collective labor agreement dispute. She demands 555 euros more per month and an inflation compensation bonus for a period of twelve months. As a core requirement, she also wants to implement a reduction in working hours for shift workers from 38 to 35 hours per week with full wage compensation. The railway describes this as impossible.
