Train drivers’ strike in the Deutsche Bahn fare dispute has begun. Horror accident in the US: six people die in a car fire

Since Wednesday evening there has been a lot of disruption on the railways in Germany. The German Locomotive Drivers’ Union (GDL) 20-hour warning strike in the collective labor agreement negotiations dispute with Deutsche Bahn has begun.

Passengers should expect significant restrictions on German rail transport, as a union spokesperson confirmed upon request. The strike is expected to last until 6pm on Thursday evening.

According to Deutsche Bahn, long-distance, regional and freight transport are affected. The group assumes the effects will be felt until operations begin Friday morning. Only then should traffic flow smoothly again.

It is the first industrial action in the ongoing collective bargaining dispute between the railways and the GDL. The union surprisingly announced the warning strike on Tuesday, just a few days after the first round of negotiations between the two sides in Berlin. During last week’s talks, the collective labor agreement parties initially agreed on a negotiating schedule with weekly meetings.

The next round of negotiations was scheduled for Thursday and Friday. After the warning strike was announced, the railroad canceled the call. (sda/dpa)
