Political advertising rules: Meta wants labels for AI content

In the future, the Facebook group Meta will require labeling photos and videos that have been modified using artificial intelligence when advertising political content.

This concerns, for example, cases in which the false impression is given that a real person has said or done something, Meta explains in a blog post on Wednesday. This also applies to situations where recordings of real events are altered or even created artificially.

Software based on artificial intelligence can sometimes generate realistic images based on linguistic descriptions alone. If advertisers do not emphasize the relevant use of AI in their images and videos, Meta will reject the ad, the company said. For repeated violations, the advertising customer may be punished. Minor AI changes, such as adjustments to image size or colors, do not need to be declared as long as they do not affect the content of the ad. (SDA)
