Great sadness on Koh Samui: a Swiss man died in a tragic traffic accident on Tuesday evening. Stefan D.* lived with his wife on the Thai island and ran a restaurant there with her. The two of them also worked there on Tuesday evening. After the service was over, his wife rode in the car for him, while he followed on the scooter. Shortly before they reached their home, a fatal accident occurred.

According to previous findings, the woman braked abruptly because of three kittens on the road. Another car would have overtaken D. and forced itself between them. When he overtook the car in front of him, D. probably crashed into his wife’s braking car while trying to avoid the vehicle due to limited visibility.

D. was thrown from the scooter and suffered serious injuries to his stomach and chest. Despite attempts to immediately revive him, he died at the scene of the accident. The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs (EDA) confirms to Blick the death of a Swiss national in Thailand.

Great sadness for people from Zurich

The accident is a shock for those left behind, as D. was an experienced and good motorcyclist. “For all of us, this accident with its terrible consequences is difficult to understand. We must wait for the investigation and secure the video recordings,” a close friend of the Swiss wrote on Facebook. They are in contact with the Swiss embassy and are trying to clarify the matter.

There is great sadness for D., both in Switzerland and Thailand. “We all greatly appreciated this kind and loyal friend,” wrote the friend from Koh Samui. And: “We would all like to thank D. for the years we spent together!” Particularly sad: D. and his wife would have celebrated their first wedding anniversary in two weeks.
