At the end of October, mafioso Antonio S.*, disguised as a parcel deliverer, was arrested by the German police.

He successfully went into hiding and fooled the police for years. But now mafioso Antonio S.* (44) has been exposed, according to research by MDR and the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” (FAZ). At the end of October, simple plate damage was the downfall of the Italian.

On that day, officers from the Duisburg police station were called to a traffic accident. Antonio S., disguised as a DHL parcel deliverer, collided with an elderly woman’s car while reversing. The police arrived and recorded the accident. However, when the officers checked the name and dates of birth of the parcel deliverer, they became suspicious: the driver involved in the accident was Antonio S. from Calabria, who was wanted on an international arrest warrant!

The officers immediately arrested the Italian. A little later he was transferred to the penitentiary, where he awaits his transfer to Italy. But who is the mafioso who has kept the authorities on their toes for years?

He also had a hand in the Duisburg mafia murders

According to information from MDR and FAZ, S. was a born Italian who allegedly belonged to the Pelle-Vanchelli, an influential clan of the ‘Ndrangheta of the Calabrian mafia. Because S. likes fast cars, he is also called “U Meccanicu” or “TT”.

S., who has been wanted in Italy since January, is also not unknown in Germany. According to reports, the mafioso is also involved in the mafia murders in Duisburg, in which six men were shot in 2007. At the time, S. was working as a pizza chef in the ‘Da Bruno’ restaurant where the murder took place. Because the N’drangheta clan, to which S.’s family belonged, was held responsible for the murders, S. also came into the crosshairs of the judiciary. He was accused of acting as a frontman for Pelle-Vanchelli. An Italian court therefore sentenced him to 19 months in prison.

Instead of serving his sentence, he ran away. However, his escape failed and a short time later he was caught by German authorities and arrested for illegal possession of weapons. However, because the verdict from Italy was not yet final, he was released and went into hiding again. It was only five years later that the police in Moers in the Ruhr area were finally able to catch him. Apparently he has served his sentence.

Mafioso is also said to have sold cocaine

As soon as he was released, S. allowed himself to be carried away by crooked machinations again: according to research by MDR and FAZ, he allegedly pulled the strings in international cocaine deals.

His actions were eventually exposed and S. was re-sentenced to five years in prison by the Italian judiciary. However, the mafioso did not comply with the authorities’ reporting requirements. Instead, he fled again to North Rhine-Westphalia and apparently stayed there with friends from the N’drangheta area.

It is unclear why S. did not try to mislead the authorities after the accident in Duisburg. S. seemed to feel safe in Germany. The Düsseldorf Public Prosecutor confirmed the arrest to MDR and FAZ. (dzc)
