Terrible accident in the apartment of Gennady Chastiakov, adjutant of Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief Valery Salushni in Kiev: Chastiakov celebrates his birthday, opens the parcels sent to him.
One of them contains a bottle of whiskey and six hand grenades. The major shows the grenades to his four children. According to Ukrainian media, a son eventually played with the ring of the grenade, after which Chastiakov allegedly took it from him and unlocked it. The explosion kills the man instantly and seriously injures his son.
Did he think the grenades were dummies?
Reports from various Ukrainian media have ruled out an attack or a Russian trail. “With a probability of 99.9 percent, this is a tragic incident,” several media wrote unanimously, citing an unnamed source.
The Minister of the Interior in Kiev, Igor Klimenko, also speaks of a tragic accident. The man who gave Chastiakov the grenades has already been identified. More grenades were found in his office.
Valeri Salushni wrote on Telegram: “Today my assistant and close friend died under tragic circumstances on his birthday, among his relatives.”
Salushni recently made headlines with comments in the British magazine “The Economist” that the Ukrainian defense campaign against the Russian invasion was increasingly turning into trench warfare. The general was criticized by the presidential office for his detailed statements. Ukraine has been defending itself against Russia’s war of aggression for more than twenty months. (neo)
