The world was shocked when a rocket hit Al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza City on October 17. There was talk of an Israeli attack and 500 deaths. Even as Israel targeted the Jabalia refugee camp with long-range shelling on Tuesday, killing 50 people, there was widespread horror around the world at Israel’s ground offensive in the Gaza Strip.
Blinded by the tragedy, almost no one wondered who had spread the messages: it was Hamas, a terrorist organization. According to Western intelligence agencies, the attack on the hospital was a deceptive rocket actually fired at Israel from the Gaza Strip. The number of deaths may also be incorrect. The attackers didn’t even stop at babies: Photos show charred corpses of children tied to their parents. Another photo shows a naked woman whose legs are broken. “The German woman was raped twenty times,” said Ambassador Ifat Reshef (55) in the photo. The desecrated corpse was then displayed as a trophy on a pickup truck.
It was a “light version” of Hamas atrocities shown to Swiss journalists. A few days ago, the Israeli embassy in Berlin confronted German journalists with even more violent material. “It was 45 minutes of absolute evil,” wrote “Bild”. 150 media representatives, some of whom collapsed, watched the screening in Germany. In Switzerland there were three after a journalist left the room early.
It’s been a month since Hamas militants broke out of the Gaza Strip and massacred in Israeli territory, taking about 240 hostages, including babies and the elderly. “We still don’t know how many deaths there have been. We have found body parts that we do not know whether they belong to one or more people,” the otherwise calm ambassador said in an energetic tone.
The Israeli army has now surrounded Gaza City. Ifat Reshef: “Many people no longer remember why we do this. Anyone who criticizes us does not know the facts. This war was forced on us.” Here a state that is a member of the UN is fighting against a terrorist organization. “You have to have a clear opinion,” said the ambassador.
