Second attack on Jabaliya refugee camp – we know it’s Leonor’s first major appearance – and these are the 9 other heirs to the throne of Europe

Huge craters, collapsed buildings, rows of body bags: the Jabaliya refugee camp paints a picture of devastation. It was targeted by Israel for the first time on Tuesday afternoon, with the next attack coming on Wednesday. What we know about it.

What happened?

Numerous people were killed in a major Israeli army attack on Jabaliya in the north of the Gaza Strip on Tuesday. The devastated neighborhood was hit again on Wednesday. This was reported by several international media, including the New York Times and CNN.

The Israeli military said Tuesday’s attack killed about 50 terrorists, including a mastermind behind Hamas’ Islamist massacre in Israel on Oct. 7.

Dr. Atef al-Kahlout, the director of the Indonesian hospital in Gaza, told CNN on Wednesday: that at least 80 bodies arrived at the hospital after the attack and that more would be recovered from the rubble.

According to al-Kahlout most victims were women and children. Hundreds more people were injured.

After the first attack on Tuesday, video footage from the accident scene showed at least 47 bodies being pulled from the rubble, according to AFP news agency.

What does Israel say?

The Israeli army spoke of a “large-scale attack” on a “Hamas military stronghold” west of the city of Jabaliya. Terrorists, among other things, were trained there.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said:They said they killed Muhammad A’sar, the commander of the Hamas anti-tank missile complex, in Wednesday’s attacks.

Senior Hamas commander Ibrahim Biari was the target of the attacks on Tuesday. According to Israel, he is said to have been involved in, among other things, the Hamas massacres in the Israeli border area three and a half weeks ago.

In Jabaliya he is said to have hidden among civilians, a common Hamas tactic, the Israeli army said. The Islamic organization was also said to have control over civilian buildings in the area.

He and a large number of other terrorists were killed in the attack. In addition, tunnels used by Hamas as underground infrastructure collapsed. Whether Biari is really dead and whether he was there cannot be independently verified at this time.

Asked about the many civilian casualties caused by the attack, Israeli military spokesman Richard Hecht told CNN:

“That is the tragedy of war.”

What does Hamas say?

Hamas strongly denies that any of its leaders were in the refugee camp. Hazem Qassem, the militant group’s spokesman, accuses Israel of using this information to justify the “heinous crime against safe civilians, children and women in the Jabaliya camp.”

According to the Islamist terrorist organization Hamas, it is both days At least 195 Palestinians were killed. According to these data, more than a hundred people are still missing under the rubble and more than 700 others are injured. This was announced by the press service of the Hamas-led government in the Gaza Strip. According to Hamas, no senior commanders should be among the dead. The information could not initially be independently verified.

What do the local people say?

Rescue efforts were still underway on Wednesday. However, rescue teams are having difficulty moving through the area. Some streets are so narrow that a car cannot fit between them. They also don’t have the gasoline to operate machines. That’s why people still dig and help with their bare hands.

The shock after the attack is deep. It felt like an earthquake, resident Ragheb Aqal told AFP news agency.

“I went there and saw the devastation. Houses buried under the rubble, body parts, martyrs and wounded in large numbers.

Mohammad Ibrahim was queuing to buy bread when suddenly six to eight bombs fell. He tells CNN:

“There were seven or eight huge holes in the ground, full of dead people, body parts everywhere. It felt like the end of the world.”

Video from Jabaliya’s nearest medical facility shows bodies lined up outside the building. Meanwhile, injured people are waiting inside for care.

Many of them are being cared for on the floor because the hospital is already completely overcrowded. This is why some people are transported to Al-Shifa Hospital. In other words: the hospital where, according to Israeli information, a Hamas headquarters should be located. However, Al-Shifa is just as crowded. A young doctor tells CNN:

“Small children came to the hospital with deep wounds and severe burns. They came without their families. Many shouted and asked for their parents. I stayed with them until we could find a place because the hospital was full of patients.”

How do the people live in Jabaliya?

According to UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency), a United Nations (UN) aid agency for Palestinian refugees in the Middle East, there are eight recognized refugee camps in Gaza, of which Jabaliya is the largest. It was built after the 1948 war, covers an area of 1.4 km² and accommodates 116,000 registered refugees.

The refugee camp suffers from a lack of housing, high unemployment and poor sanitary conditions. According to UNRWA, 90 percent of water is undrinkable.

Jabaliya is the camp closest to the Erez border crossing – currently the only land crossing between the Gaza Strip and Israel. The majority of the Palestinian population is not entitled to an exit permit. Only those who belong to certain categories defined by Israel are allowed to leave and enter the country.

The Palestinian people do not have many options. Israeli military spokesman Richard Hecht again called on the Palestinian population to leave the north of the country and evacuate to the south of the country.
