A photo from happy days: Ina K. and Steven R. were together for ten years.

Ina K.* (47) was angry: she had been with her boyfriend Steven R.* († 51) for ten years – then he announced that he wanted to leave her. Reason: He would soon become extremely wealthy, more precisely, he was entitled to an inheritance of 30 million dollars.

Then Ina K. came up with a treacherous plan: she served her boyfriend sweet tea over and over again for an entire afternoon. Investigators believe she hid antifreeze inside.

She claimed he had suffered heat stroke

Steven R. drank cup and cup – and eventually complained of severe stomach pain. On September 4, emergency services were called to his home because he was unresponsive. He eventually died in hospital on September 5.

When investigators questioned Ina K., she said her boyfriend had suffered from heatstroke and had been drinking alcohol all day. However, this did not match the autopsy report. Ethylene glycol – the main ingredient in antifreeze – was found in Steven R’s body. And no trace of alcohol.

She wouldn’t have received any money anyway

Steven R.’s friends and relatives quickly suspected his girlfriend, because she had previously made suspicious comments. The police also became suspicious and questioned the people around them. According to the New York Times, a friend of Ina K. said she was angry that her boyfriend would leave her after receiving the inheritance.

When questioned by the investigators, Ina K. still believed that she was entitled to a share of the inheritance, because she had been his partner for years. Some US states have similar laws, but this does not apply to North Dakota. According to the New York Times, Ina K. reacted “irritated” when the researchers informed her about this.

Investigators eventually discovered a bottle of antifreeze in the living room. However, Ina K. does not want to admit what she did. She described to investigators several adventurous scenarios of how her boyfriend could have accidentally poisoned himself – including by smoking a cigarette that could have been laced with the drug.

Ina K. was charged with murder on Monday. (neo)
