It sounds like a scary Halloween story from a Hollywood movie. In mid-September, a tenant at a two-story apartment building in Nebraska called the police. He claimed to have heard muffled male screams that seemed to come from “the wall or the floor.”

When the police arrived more than two hours later, there was a deathly silence and a report was filed. Until now, a chimney sweep wanted to track down the cause of a “disgusting smell” coming from the chimney shaft of the same building. The beam of his flashlight showed him something terrible: he was looking at a human shoe with a rotting leg in it.

The police assume it was an accident

The fire brigade had to break down the wall of the fireplace on the ground floor to get to the body. She could only be identified as Zachariah A.* (†29) based on a tattoo and a driver’s license in her pocket.

He had been officially missing since early October after his family had been unable to contact him for almost three weeks. Norfolk police discovered his car had been towed on September 20 due to several days of illegal parking – just 300 meters from the apartment complex. However, the police were initially unable to establish any connection with the tenant’s emergency call on September 16.
