Major operation in Hamburg! On Monday morning, several people are said to have died during work on an elevator shaft. Initially there were eight deaths. However, a spokesperson for the fire brigade has now confirmed to ‘Bild’ that at least four fatalities have occurred. However, the actual number of victims could be higher. It is also still unclear how many injured there are.
The fire brigade spokesperson told ‘ntv’ that there were still an ‘inexplicable number of construction workers’ in the shaft. A fire brigade spokesman also told ‘Bild’ that a ‘difficult, technical rescue operation’ was underway to free workers trapped under the rubble. The debris would put rescuers’ lives at risk if they tried to save the person.
According to the newspaper, the accident happened around 9 a.m. Accordingly, the scaffolding is said to have collapsed into an eight-storey shaft – over several floors. As a result, approximately 700 construction workers were evacuated from the large construction site. Ambulances and emergency doctors are on site. A rescue helicopter will also be deployed.
