Observant citizens were able to spot a six-meter-long orca on Sunday between Koksijde in Belgium and De Panne in the North Sea. It is rare to see an orca here. The orca came with the current, but a short time later the animal stranded and died.
Attempts to use a rescue boat to encourage the whale to swim deeper into the sea failed again. It was not immediately known why the orca approached shore.
According to statements from the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences, the orca looked very thin, which could indicate poor health, Belga also reported. No external injuries or fractures were found. An autopsy will be performed on the animal on Monday.
