If the German federal elections were on Sunday, Sarah Wagenknecht could be happy: according to a current survey, her party, which has not even been founded yet, would immediately achieve a double-digit result and take fourth place.
This is evident from a study conducted by the opinion research institute Insa on behalf of the German newspaper ‘Bild’. The question was: “If there were federal elections next Sunday and there was a ‘Sahra-Wagenknecht party’, how would you vote?”
In total, 14 percent of those surveyed chose the Wagenknecht party. The SPD finished in third place with only one percentage point more. The survey shows that the CDU, with 29 percent, is well ahead of the second-placed AfD (17 percent).
The research also shows that the AfD should currently give the most votes to a Wagenknecht party. In a survey by Insa that was conducted at the same time without a party belonging to the former left-wing politician, the AfD received 21 percent of the votes, more than four percent more than the competition from the left camp.
Political scientist Constantin Wurthmann came to a similar conclusion in an interview with t-online. Read the entire interview here.
Without a Wagenknecht party, the CDU would get 31 percent, which means it would lose two percentage points to the Wagenknecht party. The SPD, the Greens and the FDP would each lose one percentage point in the competition with the yet-to-be-established party.
Sahra Wagenknecht presented her plans to establish a new party last Monday. There is currently only one association called “BSW – For Reason and Justice”. From this the new Wagenknechtparty will emerge.
As a result, the member of the Bundestag resigned from the Left Party together with nine colleagues. However, they will all initially remain in the left-wing group in the Bundestag. You can read more about Wagenknecht’s plans here.
