Maine shooting suspect commits suicide

Maine State Police (USA) confirmed the discovery of the body of the main suspect in two shootings that claimed the lives of 18 people in the city of Lewiston on Wednesday.

Robert Card was found dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head and his body was found near the river where he left his car, two days after he carried out two shootings at a bowling alley and a restaurant.

This was confirmed by Mike Sauschuck, Commissioner Maine Department of Public Safety, at a press conference attended by Democratic Gov. Janet Mills, who confirmed that she had already relayed the news to President Joe Biden.

Sauschuck declined to provide many details that reporters questioned, including the location of the discovery and whether it had been examined before today. “I won’t give you the exact address. “It was near the Androscoggin River, in Lisbon Falls,” he said.

The New York Times claims that the body was found at the recycling plant where he worked, two days after he carried out two shootings at a bowling alley and a restaurant.

The commissioner explained that before the news was published, the families of the 18 victims, as well as the suspects, were notified “They lost a loved one in this scenario,” he claimed.

After the end of the press conference, an alarm was sounded on the mobile phones of the residents of the area. “The search for Mr. Card is over. The retreat is over. “You can hunt again.”

The press conference began with a few words from Democratic Governor Janet Mills, who first announced the long-awaited news. “Robert Card is dead.”

“Like many people, I’m relieved to know that Robert Card is no longer a threat to anyone. I know there are many people who share that sentiment, but I also know that his death may not bring comfort to many. But now is the time to heal,” he said.

His vehicle was found on the night of the event on the pier in Lisbon, a city about 12 kilometers from Lewiston, where the massacre took place. That is why the search this Friday is focused on the river next to which the vehicle was found, along with diversunderwater robots and sonars.

Card was a reservist, 40 years old, and spent two weeks in a psychiatric hospital. Until now, he was considered armed and dangerous.
