Hundreds protested in Zurich on Saturday for a ‘free Palestine’.

There were also demonstrations in Swiss streets on Saturday over the conflict in the Middle East. People demonstrated for the victims on both the Palestinian and Israeli sides.

Several thousand people gathered in Zurich on Saturday afternoon for a demonstration for “a free Palestine”. The city of Zurich approved the demonstration. The police were on site with a large contingent. The organizers called in advance that people would only bring Palestinian flags. Anti-Semitic statements are strictly prohibited, the appeal said.

At Helvetiaplatz, almost only large and small Palestinian flags and kufyia, also known as the “Arafat cloth,” were visible, as a Keystone-SDA reporter noted.

Meanwhile, there was another rally on Saturday afternoon at Sechseläutenplatz in Zurich. The participants sat on chairs and held an A4 sheet of paper with the image of suspected Israeli hostages in front of their faces.

Demo in front of the Federal Palace

A new Palestinian demonstration began Saturday afternoon in front of the Federal Palace in Bern. The Palestinian Group Bern called for the approved demonstration.

“We demand an immediate ceasefire and an end to the genocide,” said a call on social media. The siege must end.

At the start of the demonstration, there were a few hundred people on Bundesplatz, a reporter from the Keystone-SDA news agency reported. Palestinian flags were waved. Numerous police officers observed the event.

Meetings on the Middle East conflict were also announced on Saturday in other Swiss cities, including Basel, Geneva and Bellinzona. Last weekend, Bern, Zurich and Basel did not allow demonstrations in the Middle East. They justified this with concerns about personal injury and property damage. (SDA/bab)
