There has been speculation about the Russian president’s health for some time now, and rumors continue to emerge. There are rarely any statements from the Kremlin on this issue. But now the death of the Moscow ruler has even been announced on Telegram channels. The report came from a Telegram account whose owner claims to be with the Secret Service – but this cannot be verified.

It was even said that a double had taken over official duties. “This is an absurd joke,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov dismissed the rumors. “Everything is going well with him,” he told state news agency Ria Novosti on Friday.

Detailed descriptions of alleged pain

It was the second time in a week that the Kremlin felt compelled to comment on the president’s health. Last weekend, reports appeared on Telegram that Putin had suffered a cardiac arrest. According to “Bild”, there were even detailed descriptions that the incident had occurred during his weekend retreat in Valdai and that doctors had stopped resuscitation efforts at 8:42 PM Moscow time. Putin’s spokesman Peskov hastened to deny these reports.

There is hardly any official talk about the health of the Russian president. In recent years there have been repeated speculations that Putin is ill. Holding onto a table and dragging his leg caused speculation, as did reports of alleged cancer.

Peskov: “There are no doubles”

Doppelgängers are also often brought into play. Peskov denied this. “I can say that there are no lookalikes,” he said. The legend about Putin’s double is alive and well, and not only in Russia. It was first distributed in the West by the English Yellow Press. The newspaper ‘Bild’ also regularly says that there are people who look like Putin and represent him.

The rumors about his health could also be related to the presidential elections scheduled for next year. It is not yet clear when exactly these will take place, but it is expected that Putin will return to power.
