Corresponding rumors continue to pop up on social media. That the Russian president is terminally ill and that he has a double appear in public. However, nothing has been proven so far.
Now a major Telegram channel has once again spread the news that Vladimir Putin suffered a heart attack this weekend: he collapsed in a luxurious palace in Valdai. Doctors tried to revive him. Vain.
The channel ‘General SVR’ trumpets that doctors declared Putin dead at 8.42 pm. The channel continues: “Now the doctors are locked in the room with Putin’s body, they are being held by members of the presidential security service (…).”
Naturally, the report immediately spread online – even though many people immediately expressed their doubts. Now the Kremlin was forced to make a statement to the RIA Novosti news agency. Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the report was “absurd nonsense.”
Regarding the rumors of heart problems, Peskov said: “He’s doing well – that’s just more nonsense.” And further: “Stories like this are fake news and are covered with enviable persistence by a number of media outlets.” In the Kremlin this is recognized “with a smile”.
Peskov also denied claims that Putin has doppelgängers who perform for him during appearances. “I can say that there are no doppelgängers.”
But why is the Telegram channel spreading the message so persistently? There is speculation that former Putin confidantes are behind the channel who have fallen out of favor with him and want to do him harm.
And despite all the rumors: on Thursday a lively Vladimir Putin visited the space center in Korolyov near Moscow. (neo)
