Is Gaza running out of fuel? According to Hamas, the population is currently at immediate risk of a fuel shortage. Hospitals are in danger and people have no electricity and water. The UN also demands fuel for Gaza.
But now Israel wants to prove Hamas wrong with satellite images. On Tuesday, the army released images of fuel tanks believed to be in the Gaza Strip.
“These tanks contain more than 500,000 liters of fuel,” the army responded to the images on X, formerly Twitter. The recordings are said to have come from the southern Gaza Strip.
The military released the images after Hamas blamed Israel for a power outage at a hospital. The Islamic organization described the incident as “a crime against humanity.”
Hamas calls on Israel to allow fuel deliveries. She only offered the prospect of further release of the hostages once the deliveries had been made.
The UN complains that the situation in the Gaza Strip remains dramatic, despite some aid deliveries that have now arrived in Gaza. According to UN aid agencies, no fuel has yet reached the area. “The fuel we want to bring in is the fuel that the Palestinian aid organization UNRWA needs. It will be for our activities. And of course there must also be fuel for the hospitals and so on,” said UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric.
Meanwhile, Israel stressed on Tuesday evening that Hamas would not provide fuel to hospitals in need. The accusation: Hamas uses the stored fuel to “light their terror tunnels, fire rockets and for their own homes” instead of making it available to the civilian population. (bab/SDA)
