Anti-terrorist attack in Germany: Islamist wanted to drive trucks to pro-Israel demonstration

A police raid took place in Duisburg (D). During the large-scale anti-terrorist operation, suspect Tarik S. (29) was arrested. According to ‘Bild’, state security investigators suspect that he was planning an Islamist terrorist attack. This would probably take place during a pro-Israel rally in North Rhine-Westphalia.

According to the newspaper, the man, who was already considered a person at risk, wanted to drive a truck into the crowd. He is said to have written in chats that he wanted to die as a martyr. S. is also said to have praised the Brussels attacker who shot two people on October 16, according to a situation assessment by the Federal Criminal Police.

Searching an apartment should yield evidence

The German investigators are said to have received the tip about the planned attack from a foreign intelligence service. S. is now being interrogated. In addition, his apartment will be searched to collect possible evidence of the planning of the attack, the newspaper reported. It is still unclear whether investigators will find sufficient evidence for an arrest warrant.
