Argentina: Electoral participation reaches 74% of the census

74% of Argentine voters cast their ballots this Sunday general electionswhich is five points more than the participation in the primary elections in August, official sources reported.

The general secretary of the presidency, Julio Vitobello, appeared at the closing of the polls in Argentina and said that this percentage can be seen to be high.

The PASO elections (mandatory simultaneous and mandatory primaries), held on August 13, ended with 69% participation. or 5% less.

Beyond the equator election day in argentina, Calm throughout the country is the general note, broken only by the spectacle – closer to football and rock than politics – that accompanied the vote for La Libertad Avanza (far-right) candidate Javier Milei.

The five candidates running for the presidency of Argentina between 2023 and 2027 starting next December 10 went to their polling centers before that time, but without a doubt the one who grabbed the most attention was the libertarian economist.

Showered with flower petals and pushed by hundreds of followers who gathered around the National Technological University (UTN) in Buenos Aires, who wanted to express their support and sing him “happy birthday” on his 53rd anniversary today, Milei arrived dressed in his usual leather jacket accompanied by her sister Karina, whom she calls ‘Boss’.

The expectations of the libertarian representative were maximum both in the room and outside, where hundreds of journalists and voters fought to get close to the political figure who “kicked” the board of Argentine politics with his devastating speech and unorthodox ways. .

“We are in a position to create the best government in history,” he answered questions from journalists.

Meanwhile, his closest opponents, official candidate Sergio Massa and candidate Together for Change (centre-right) Patricia Bullrich, voted in a more relaxed atmosphere.

Although the research known until October 14 (the last possible date) places it in third place, behind Miley and Massa, Bullrich did not rule out going to the second round, although he avoided party statements this Sunday and only said that the goal “is not only to be there, but also to win the elections.”

Two minority candidates, dissident Peronist Juan Schiaretti and leftist Myriam Bregman, were the first to go to the polls on a day where they hope to improve on their primary numbers.
