The images of the brutal Hamas attack on festival visitors on October 7 went around the world.

When Israeli Raz P.* (20) entered the grounds of the Supernova Festival in the Negev Desert on October 7, he had no idea what tragedy would happen in a few hours.

Like thousands of other boys his age, P. wants to go wild that day and dance to the music. Most of all, he wants to distract himself from his lymphatic cancer. But when several Hamas terrorists suddenly appear in their vehicles, a sudden sense of anxiety arises. It’s about life and death.

“I had nothing but my hands”

Together with others, P. flees to a shelter to seek safety from the terrorists. The group does not remain undiscovered for long. Hamas tracks them down. P. wants to defend himself, but soon realizes that he doesn’t stand a chance against the heavily armed men. “I had nothing but my hands,” he said in an interview with CNN.

All around him, Hamas terrorists start shooting at him, hitting another hidden festival visitor in the leg. Finally, they take out several grenades and throw them into the shelter. As he tells CNN, P. then threw himself in front of one of these grenades. The action would probably have meant certain death in 99 out of 100 cases. However, P. was extremely lucky. He was “only” injured in his leg.

But the danger is far from averted. When one of the group decides to escape and is spotted by the terrorists, they return to the hideout and shoot everything that moves. Desperate, P. pulls a woman’s corpse over him and pretends to be dead, but this does not stop the shots. P. himself gets a bullet in the stomach.

“I can’t forget what I saw”

“I felt no pain at that moment. “I was just waiting until I heard the cars leaving,” he remembers. After what feels like an eternity, he manages to leave the shelter. Outside he sees a gruesome scene. There are countless corpses of festival goers on the ground. He discovers dead girls with their pants down.

In a nearby town he finally finds help from a family who lives there. They care for him until he is admitted to the hospital. Raz is still receiving care for his cancer there. The images he was confronted with a few days ago are still deeply burned into his memory. «I have cancer, I went to the festival to hear the music for my soul. But I can’t forget what I saw with my eyes.” (ced)
