Hamas will join forces with the Shiite organization Hezbollah in the fight against Israel.

Since the Hamas attack on Israel, there have been repeated clashes involving rockets and artillery along the Lebanese border. They were fired by the pro-Iranian militia Hezbollah, which is active in Lebanon.

The Shia organization was involved in the newly ignited conflict from the beginning. As “Politico” reports, this is unlikely to change anytime soon.

Hamas is already closely coordinating its next steps with the terrorist organization. “We have very close relations with Hezbollah. We cooperated with Hezbollah before and after the attack on Israel, and now we are fully cooperating,” Ahmed Abdul-Hadi, head of Hamas’s political bureau in Lebanon, said in an interview with the American newspaper.

As the statements of the senior Hamas representative show, Hezbollah seems prepared for anything. So she is preparing for ‘a great war’ against Israel. Abdul-Hadi is certain: Hezbollah will stop at nothing. “Hezbollah has made it clear that it will fully attack Israel if the Israelis cross the border.”

Israel’s ground offensive in the Gaza Strip will ultimately be the catalyst for Hezbollah’s full involvement in the conflict, the representative said. “Hezbollah will ignore warnings to stay out.”

The Hamas representative’s statements are likely to fuel fears among many parties that the conflict in the Middle East could spread to two fronts and that Lebanon could fall victim to the war.

The Islamists want to go much further than Gaza

However, Hamas does not seem to be satisfied with Hezbollah’s merger. As The Economist writes, their ambitions are much higher. “We want to spark an uprising in the occupied West Bank,” a Hamas representative told the newspaper.

The uprising affects both the ailing president of the Palestinian Authority (PA), Mahmoud Abbas (87), and Israel.

As the report goes on to say, in addition to the rebellion, Hamas has also set itself the goal of putting the issue of Palestine back at the top of the Middle East’s political agenda.

It remains to be seen if and when the Israeli ground offensive will begin and the war will enter the next round. (dzc)
