It is not yet known how many victims the rocket hit caused.

A rocket hits the Al-Ahli hospital in the Gaza Strip, hundreds of casualties are feared. According to Palestinian information, this was caused by Israeli bombing, but the Israeli army blames Islamic Jihad in the Gaza Strip.

Information therefore points to a failed rocket launch by the militant Palestinian organization. Videos show the missile being intercepted in mid-air, exploding and sending burning debris falling on the hospital.

The exact number of deaths is still unclear. The Palestinian Ministry of Health spoke of hundreds of deaths and injuries. Doctors Without Borders said the strike had caused a “carnage”.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has firmly denied responsibility for the rocket attack. “The whole world should know: it was barbaric terrorists in Gaza who attacked the hospital in Gaza,” Netanyahu said on Tuesday. It wasn’t the Israeli army. “Those who brutally murdered our children are also murdering their own,” he continued.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has declared three days of national mourning. Palestinian flags must be flown at half-mast.

After the missile strike, Saudi Arabia strongly condemned the “heinous crime.” The country blamed Israel for the attack, according to a statement from the Saudi Foreign Ministry on Tuesday evening. Riyadh condemns the “Israeli occupation’s continued attacks” on civilians.

Spontaneous protests

Spontaneous protests broke out in several predominantly Muslim countries. The pro-Iranian militia Hezbollah, which is active in Lebanon, declared a “day of unprecedented anger” against Israel. This is also aimed at US President Joe Biden’s solidarity visit to Israel planned for Wednesday, the Shia organization announced late Tuesday evening. Biden wants to “support the criminal regime.”

The Lebanese militia emphasized that condemning words were no longer enough. She called on people in the Arab and Muslim world to express their outrage through protests.

In Amman, demonstrators tried to reach the Israeli embassy, the Jordanian news agency Petra reported on Tuesday evening. Jordanian security circles reportedly dismissed reports that the building had been stormed. The demonstrators were removed from the area.

Numerous demonstrators gathered on Tuesday evening in front of the Israeli consulate in the Turkish metropolis of Istanbul. Some waved Palestinian flags and chanted, “Down with Israel!” according to a broadcast by the state news agency Anadolu. The police were there with a large contingent to protect the consulate in the Levent district. Israel has ordered its citizens to leave Turkey.

Iran responded to the shelling

According to eyewitnesses, hundreds of Hezbollah supporters poured into the streets of Beirut’s southern suburbs, demanding that Tel Aviv be bombed.

In Iran, a crowd in central Tehran chanted “Down with Israel,” videos from state news agency IRNA showed. The government declared Wednesday a day of mourning. The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman strongly condemned the attack and blamed arch-enemy Israel.

According to the wishes of several countries, the UN Security Council should deal with the rocket that hit a hospital in the Gaza Strip. On Tuesday, the United Arab Emirates and Russia requested an emergency meeting of the most powerful UN body for Wednesday morning New York time, as the German Press Agency learned from diplomatic circles.
