Israeli military base at Ramle: this is the place where the Hamas victims are identified

The Shura military base, headquarters of the Israeli army’s rabbinate, is located not far from the city of Ramle, southeast of Tel Aviv. Refrigerated trucks have been coming and going here since Hamas attacked Israel on October 7. They bring the bodies of more than 1,300 victims for identification before handing them over to their relatives.

On Friday, Israeli and international media representatives were allowed to enter the base – the Israeli army wanted to show the world the scale of the carnage. As the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, among others, writes, there were numerous containers on the site. They contained bodies and body parts that had been approved for burial.

“The little ones are children”

A soldier opened the door of one of the containers so journalists could take photos. Inside, bodies wrapped in plastic bags were piled on the shelves of hardware stores. “The little ones are children,” the soldier explained, according to a report by “Spiegel.”

They say new bodies arrive every day. Some are difficult to identify because they are burned too tightly. Volunteer Benny Schechter told Haaretz: “Some bodies are in very bad condition. They weren’t just shot. Some are very difficult to identify because they are burned. In some cases, the body and head are found separately. Body parts were also found in the trees.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (73) claims that Hamas has also beheaded babies. According to people who handled the bodies at the Shura Identification Center, the dead included babies whose bodies were separated from their heads.

Some family members will likely remain in the dark

The bodies, which cannot be identified at the military base, are being transported in refrigerated trucks to the National Center for Forensic Medicine in Tel Aviv. Some families will likely remain in limbo forever. Chen Kugel, director of the centre, told Daily Mail: ‘I fear there will be people we will never identify. People have to be prepared for that.”
