The proceeds from Giro555’s nationwide fundraiser for Ukraine last March have continued to rise to over 175 million euros. A total of 62.6 million euros have now been spent, reports Giro555.
Most of the money spent, 43 percent, went to livelihoods, the organization said. In addition, 18 percent was invested in food aid and 12 percent in providing shelter. The aid organizations behind Giro555 will continue to help with the remaining proceeds until the end of February 2025.
For the NOS program Pauw in the Ukraine (21.27-22.18, NPO 1), Jeroen Pauw visited the country together with Tineke Ceelen from the Refugee Foundation. More than seven months after the National Day of Action for Ukraine, they looked at how the money has been spent so far:
The inhabitants of the country must now prepare for the winter. “The coming months will be about getting these people through the winter in a safe and humane manner,” said Kees Zevenbergen, Chairman and Director of Cordaid at Action. “It will be a big challenge. But I am confident that we can and must make a significant contribution with the knowledge, craftsmanship and local networks of our cooperating aid organizations.”
In April, it turned out that the campaign had raised more than 160 million. At that time it was already the second most successful Giro555 campaign of all time. Only the collection for the victims of the 2004 Asian tsunami raised more. Then more than 208 million euros came together.
