A pro-Palestine demonstration got out of hand in Berlin.

Clashes broke out between participants in a pro-Palestinian demonstration and the police in the center of the German capital Berlin on Sunday afternoon. This is evident from videos circulating on social media.

The rally was a replacement event, a police spokesperson told ‘t-online’. The organizers of the demonstration were not allowed to attend the meeting on October 11. Instead, about 1,000 participants gathered at Potsdamer Platz on Sunday to show their sympathy for Palestine.

Protesters ignore police announcements

The emergency services warned participants not to show Palestinian flags or Palestinian scarves. This is not allowed due to pro-Palestinian protests in Berlin. However, several protesters ignored the police announcement.

This is proven by photos and videos of Potsdamer Platz. The demonstrators present did not respond to a request to disband the meeting.

Screams of ‘Allahu akbar’ on Potsdamer Platz

According to “Bild”, anti-Semitic shouts were also raised, and hundreds also repeatedly shouted “Allahu akbar”, “God is great”. Clashes ensued between officers in riot gear and the demonstrators. Police used pepper spray to disperse the crowd to no avail.

“There is no place for anti-Semitism and hatred of Israel in Berlin,” Berlin’s ruling mayor Kai Wegner (51) made clear. He announced that the crimes would be punished consistently. However, in the evening the situation was still not under control, writes ‘Bild’. (no)
