Several demonstrations have already escalated

Several demonstrations over the conflict in the Middle East have escalated in recent days. In Duisburg (D), several hundred police officers had to prevent clashes between pro-Israeli and pro-Palestinian demonstrators. Two people who took part in the pro-Palestinian demonstration were taken into custody for making inflammatory statements.

The police also had to break up a Palestinian demonstration in Berlin, sometimes with violence. In the Neukölln district, several people attacked a police car and one police officer was injured. Authorities believe the attackers were sympathizers of the radical Islamic group Hamas.

In a current situation report from the German Federal Criminal Police Office, the authorities expect an “increased potential for emotionalization and mobilization,” writes the newspaper “Bild”.
