Biden plans corridor: this should allow civilians to escape from the Gaza Strip Tensions in Guatemala: demonstrators block more than 100 streets

US President Joe Biden has called on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to minimize civilian casualties in Gaza. Two officials told NBC. According to US officials, Biden is coordinating with other countries to organize a plan for the safe exit of Palestinian and American citizens from Gaza. The planned corridor should lead to Egypt. According to insiders, the country rejected the proposal after consultation.

The only non-Israeli border crossing, Rafah, into Egypt was recently closed. As the dpa news agency reports, the UN now wants to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza from neighboring Egypt.

A ground offensive in the Gaza Strip is likely imminent

During the phone call with Joe Biden, Netanyahu also reported on the violence committed by Hamas terrorists, according to a video that the Israeli prime minister shared on social media. Families were murdered in their homes, women were raped and murdered, soldiers were beheaded and children were burned and executed. “We have never seen such brutality in the history of the state. They are even worse than ISIS,” Netanyahu said. Military experts expect an Israeli ground offensive in Gaza in the coming days.

Currently, approximately 2.2 million people live in the Gaza Strip, an area approximately 40 kilometers long and 9 kilometers wide. According to UNICEF, about a million of them are children. Since Saturday’s terrorist attacks on Israel, about a thousand Palestinians have been killed in counterattacks in the Gaza Strip.

With an order from Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, the Gaza Strip was also completely closed off on Monday. That means no electricity, no food, no water and no fuel for Gaza. According to a statement by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, this is contrary to international humanitarian law.

The “complete blockade” had its first effects on Wednesday. As the Palestinian Electricity Company announced, the region’s only power plant had to be closed due to a lack of fuel.
