Lee Sasi attended the festival in Israel that turned into a massacre.

Numerous music lovers traveled to southern Israel to celebrate together at the festival near Kibbutz Re’im. Only: the actual peace festival ended in a bloodbath. About 3,000 festival-goers were shaken out of their festive mood early Saturday morning when Hamas militias entered Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip. Countless festival visitors were killed and dozens of people were kidnapped.

Many visitors ran to survive, others played dead or hid. This also applies to the American Lee Sasi, who barricaded himself in a bunker with about 30 to 35 others. But they were not safe there either: when Hamas fighters discovered them, the terrorists shot indiscriminately at the bunker.

Sasi waited in her hiding place for hours. “They started throwing grenades into the bunker, which had no doors,” she later told a friend. “15 grenades and 1,000 bullets were fired.” Of the approximately 35 people who hid, only ten emerged alive, according to Sasi.

“It was like a miracle.”Lee Sasi, survivor

According to her own statements, the young woman only survived because she and others hid among the corpses in the bunker for seven hours. “I’m hiding here among the dead, no joke,” Sasi wrote to a friend via Instagram, television channel i24 reported. The survivor also sent a photo of several lifeless bodies stacked on top of each other.

After seven long hours of hiding, the young woman was able to contact relatives who lived nearby. They sent former soldiers to rescue her and the others. ‘We were so lucky. “It was like a miracle,” she writes.

Her uncle died during the massacre

The survivor’s sister also spoke out on social media. In her story she talks about her sister’s strength. At the same time, she mourns her uncle, whom they both lost during the festival massacre. «My uncle Avi protected her until his last breath. He will forever be our hero,” she wrote. She then posts a photo of him, taken shortly before Hamas attacked the festival. “Rest in peace, Avi.” (gs)
