Reporter comes under fire – and continues to report on the Palestinian conflict: why Switzerland struggles to use the word ‘terror’.

The terrorist organization Hamas continues to fire rockets into Israel. A reporter from the American broadcaster CNN experienced this firsthand.

American reporter Clarissa Ward came under fire near the Gaza Strip just before a live broadcast for her channel CNN. An excerpt from the program was shared by the channel on the X platform, formerly Twitter.

In it, Ward is seen lying on the ground in a ditch to protect himself. The reporter first apologizes for the “inelegant position” she put herself in for the live broadcast. “But here was a huge shower of rockets not far from us,” Ward said.

At the time of the broadcast, the CNN reporter said she was about five minutes away from the Gaza Strip. You can now hear fighter jets and Israel’s ‘Iron Dome’ air defense system, used to defend against missiles. “We came here because this was ground zero for this extermination operation,” Ward said.

Reporter speaks of “ground zero” of the attack on Israel

In English, ‘ground zero’ actually refers to the point below the explosion site of an atomic bomb. However, colloquially the term in connection with disasters also means the point of most severe damage or destruction.

The location of the live broadcast was the first point at which terrorists from the Islamist Palestinian organization Hamas broke through the Gaza Strip’s border wall, Ward said. They came onto the adjacent road in an all-terrain vehicle and “spread lead” wherever they went, the reporter says. It shows remains of large caliber ammunition. Several deaths occurred at the location, Ward said.

After about a minute, the journalist can leave her protective position and show the surrounding landscape. Smoke from air strikes or anti-aircraft batteries from the Israeli army can be seen on the horizon.

Massacre at music festival in the Negev desert

Hamas terrorists entered towns near the border on Saturday, the Jewish holiday of Simchat Torah (Joy of the Torah), going from house to house looking for victims. They shot men, women and children and abducted others to the Gaza Strip.

According to rescuers, 260 mostly young participants were killed by terrorists at a music festival in the Negev desert. Gruesome images appeared on social media that were difficult to bear.
