They order the organization of the police command after the death of the inmates

The move comes after it was announced that an Ecuadorian detained in Quito this Saturday was added to the list of six Colombian prisoners killed in a penitentiary in Guayaquil, all linked to the Villavicencio murder.

In a statement, the Communications Secretariat reported on the actions ordered by President Lasso “in response to the violent death of seven persons deprived of liberty, linked to the crime” against Villavicencio.

Among these measures, he ordered “the dismissal of the general director National police investigation General Alain Luna, by the successive dismissal and reorganization of the supreme command of the police.”

Likewise, “the transfer of six persons deprived of their liberty connected with the investigation of the murder of Fernando Villavicenci, in order to protect their safety”.

Also “the dismissal of the director of SNAI, Luis Ordonezand a corresponding assignment to Colonel (retired) Faust Cobo, current director of the CIES (Strategic Intelligence Center)”.

Finally, Lasso ordered “the filing of criminal charges against José M, deputy director of CPL Guayas 1 (Guayaquil Penitentiary), who was already detained by the national police, so that he could present his version to the prosecution.”

The SOS Cárceles Ecuador Foundation, which works to defend human rights and peace in the country’s prisons, asked the Prosecutor’s Office and SNAI to transfer the accused in the Villavicencio case to more secure prisons, although their request was not granted.

The deaths of the last seven defendants came days after the United States Government offered a $5 million reward for information on the intellectual behind the murder.
