“Rocket sound sounded like music”: Thousands of partygoers flee into the desert after the attack

Thousands of people gathered in the desert near the Gaza Strip on Friday evening to party all night long. While partygoers were still enjoying the loud bass on Saturday morning, another sound suddenly emerged: the sound of rockets being fired into Israel by Palestinian terrorists.

“The rocket sound initially sounded like part of the music,” one of the partygoers explained to Israel’s Channel 12. “But suddenly we felt the bullets around us,” the man said. He and his friends then tried to get to their vehicles. This created a bottleneck at the exit.

Mass panic broke out

Noya Reuven (20) was also present. She told the Times of Israel that there was mass panic after the shooting. All partygoers ran to their vehicles as rockets could be heard overhead.

Once in her car, Reuven tried for two hours to leave the field where the cars were parked. Finally she managed to turn onto a small side street. There she picked up a few before driving to a city further away from the Gaza Strip.

A woman named Esther was also at the party. While trying to leave the event, her car was shot at and totaled. A man in a jeep then offered to give her a ride, Esther tells Channel 12.

Played to death for two hours

The driver was shot on the way – the jeep crashed into a well. Next to the unconscious driver, Esther and her friend pretended to be dead for two hours until they heard soldiers speaking Hebrew, who then took them to the nearest hospital.

According to Channel 12, volunteers from a local organization compiled a list of those who attended the party. Dozens of people are still reported missing, a volunteer said. In the meantime, security forces were able to take control of the area where the party took place. (obf)
