“Notorious and sneaky”: Minister rails against AfD actions in Khrupalla Putin case: grenade fragments found among victims of Prigozhin’s plane crash

AfD leader Tino Chrupalla caused a stir this week at a campaign event in Ingolstadt. On Wednesday, four days before the state elections in Bavaria, the AfD reported an alleged “attack incident” on the co-federal leader. According to the party, he was then taken to a hospital and even put in intensive care.

On Thursday evening, the AfD announced that Chrupalla had been the victim of an attack and had suffered a “stab wound”. However, Chrupalla was discharged from hospital on Thursday.

Meanwhile, an investigation was launched against unknown persons. The case is under investigation, but there are doubts about the AfD’s claims surrounding the incident. This is not just due to chronology. And: Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann (CSU) finds clear words about the Chrupalla case.

The AfD’s statements apparently make the politician angry. He makes serious accusations against the right-wing populist party. Herrmann finds it “shocking how infamously and conniving the AfD is trying to profit from the incidents among its own clientele in the state election campaign without waiting for the investigation.” In fact, immediately after the alleged incident, the party communicated that Chrupalla had been attacked. She spoke of a “physical attack”.

The Ingolstadt Public Prosecutor’s Office started an investigation on suspicion of bodily harm against an unknown person. But so far there is no evidence that such an incident actually occurred.

There is no evidence of a physical attack on AfD politician Chrupalla

According to a police spokesperson, the investigation will probably last several days. “It is also important to evaluate reliable evidence,” says Hermann.

Blood samples without findings
The forensic examination of his blood samples revealed no unusual findings. The toxicological examination conducted by the researchers was unremarkable, the German news agency learned from researchers on Friday.

Chrupalla’s office had previously made available for inspection a medical discharge letter from the Ingolstadt clinic, which showed that the toxicology screening at the hospital was also negative. The letter referred to both an “intramuscular injection” and elsewhere an “infection with an unclear substance”.

A “needle prick” in the right upper arm is also mentioned in the letter during the findings of the AfD leader’s physical examination. A spokeswoman for the Ingolstadt public prosecutor’s office was initially unable to confirm the information on Friday. (sda/dpa)

Police say other witnesses are being interviewed. But: The public prosecutor initially saw no indications that an attack on Chrupalla had actually taken place during the election campaign. And: “The investigations were unremarkable,” it said in a statement.

The researchers also assessed images of the event, among other things. Initial findings indicate that several people “took selfies with Mr. Chrupalla, during which there was mild physical contact,” police and prosecutors said.

The AfD speaks of a “puncture site”, the police of a slight redness

According to police statements, Chrupalla received medical attention backstage before his speech began and was then taken to hospital. An AfD spokesman said he complained of “pain in his upper arm”. He spoke of a ‘puncture site’. However, police said that while Chrupalla was being treated, a “superficial redness or swelling” was discovered.

According to the AfD’s announcement on Thursday evening, Chrupalla will now receive further medical treatment. All other election campaign dates were canceled.
