Paris is currently dealing with a nasty plague.

Paris has a bed bug problem! There have been countless videos of the annoying vermin that seems unstoppable to spread in the French capital for weeks on social media. Bed bugs are now increasingly seen in houses, hotels, trains and even cinemas, CNN reports.

Minister of Transport announces measures

Now the French government has put the issue on its agenda. Minister of Transport Clément Beaune (42) said on Friday that he would “consult with the transport companies next week” to “take further measures”. The aim of the campaign is to calm the public and to protect the Parisians against the blood -sucking insects.

The invasion of bed bugs is also a top priority in the city council of Paris. In an interview with the French broadcaster LCI last Friday, Emmanuel Grégoire (45), deputy mayor of Paris, described the problem as “widespread”.

Despite a campaign to combat bed bugs that the French government launched three years ago, the plagues have not yet been eradicated.

Bed bugs are becoming increasingly resistant

For Johanne Fite from the French Agency for Food, Environment and Occupational Safety, it is clear where the problem comes from. “It is largely due to the journeys of people, the traveling population and the fact that people stay in short -term accommodations and bring bed bugs in their luggage,” Fite told CNN.

The health expert also assumes that the number of bed bugs will probably increase even further in the near future. Because: “We are observing more and more bed bug populations that are resistant, so there is no panacea to get rid of them.”

Despite everything, deputy mayor Grégoire warns of hysteria. More and more Parisians are turning to the information services of the town hall for information about bed bugs.

“No threat to the Olympic Games”

For the city of light, the timing of the pest invasion could not be worse. The Olympic Summer Games will start less than a year. Grégoire, however, made it clear in the LCI interview: “There is no threat to the Olympic Games.”

Bed bugs have always existed and the games offer everyone the opportunity to work on the problem together. (CED)
