Gambian Boubacar Toure (27) saved several bus passengers from death. According to a report, he and a colleague ran to the vehicle and pulled four or five people, including a child, from the fire.
The worker from the shipbuilding company “Finctieri” told the newspaper “Il Gazzettino” that he helped the fire brigade, which was the first on the scene, to save four people. He was also able to pull a small, trapped girl from the wreckage and hand her over to one of the 118 ambulances. “Next to them, I was able to free a small dog,” says the young man. He and his colleague didn’t think about it for a second and immediately jumped on the bus.
The two workers had just finished their shift at the factory not far away. They immediately ran towards the bus, which had just caught fire, and jumped in. “I saw the driver in the cab of the bus, but he was already dead,” Boubacar said. “The firefighter then told me that we had to think about the living and the injured, so I helped him get these people out and bring them out.” The young man clearly finds it difficult to talk about the experience. He always has to regroup.
During the night, rescue teams had set up a makeshift morgue near the viaduct by stringing some bulkheads between the pylons. Ambulances were ready to rescue the last victims of the accident. The accident scene is now fenced and cordoned off. The bus was lifted with cranes and removed.
The images from the surveillance cameras aimed at the bridge are now intended to provide information about the dynamics of the accident and to clarify why the vehicle fell from the bridge. (An)
