After a huge IT failure: VW has repaired production errors, British authority gives permission for controversial oil field in the North Sea

Volkswagen says it has resolved the IT malfunction that has paralyzed production at several factories since Wednesday. Production is now being ramped up again, a spokesperson for the car manufacturer told dpa on Thursday morning.

“The IT infrastructure issues in the Volkswagen network were resolved overnight and the network is operating stably again,” he said. “The affected applications are currently being restarted. The global production network is ramping up and production should proceed as planned.”

However, individual systems could still be affected “in a transitional phase,” he added. There are still no indications that the disruption was caused by external influences.

The IT failure paralyzed the central network of the Volkswagen Group on Wednesday. Production at several factories came to a standstill, including Wolfsburg, Zwickau, Emden and Osnabrück. Audi’s parts factories in Braunschweig, Salzgitter and Kassel were also affected. Audi also reported problems.

According to Handelsblatt, car dealers and the US factory in Chattanooga were also affected. According to an IT service provider responsible for the company’s networks, it was a global disruption. A crisis team was set up in Wolfsburg and worked through the night to resolve the problem. (sda/awp/dpa)
