‘Dear Child’: Series on Netflix can continue through a trick These are the new ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith” in the Amazon remake

The thriller ‘Liebes Kind’ is extremely successful on Netflix, and the German series is also a hit internationally. Recently, it even overtook the live-action adaptation of “One Piece” in terms of views (describing the number of hours watched). “Liebes Kind” landed at number one on the Netflix charts in 84 countries. A lot of people are now wondering: Will the series continue or is a second season expected?

While there is one major factor that speaks against a sequel, an expansion of the series cannot be completely ruled out. Rather, there is a backdoor that Netflix could use.

Netflix: “Dear Child” captivates viewers

‘Dear Child’ is based on the novel of the same name by Romy Hausmann. The focus is on Lena (played by Kim Riedle), who can free herself and her two children from the captivity of a psychopath. However, the kidnapper does not give up and tries to gain power over her again.

The problem from the fan’s perspective: “Dear Child” is designed as a miniseries and is actually supplemented by the six episodes that have already been published. The literary source has been ‘used up’.

A new season would therefore be extremely difficult – at least if Netflix wants to continue the previous plot. Theoretically it would be possible to continue running a character story, but this scenario is not very likely.

On the other hand, a streaming service almost always has the impulse to continue its most successful productions – even if certain factors initially contradict it. The number of views “Liebes Kind” achieved in the first weeks after its release is extremely tempting.

“Big Little Lies,” starring Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman, for example, was originally intended as a miniseries. Still, a second season was ordered, in which the plot actually continued with the familiar characters. There is (almost) always a way.

‘Dear Child’ could become an anthology

The streaming service could also leave the story of the first episodes alone and still continue with ‘Dear Child’. The trick: A second season could also tell a completed story (with new stars), but at least that has thematic parallels with the first season. Then ‘Dear Child’ would become an anthology

This approach wouldn’t even be new for Netflix. “Dahmer – Monster: The Story of Jeffrey Dahmer” will also get a second season. But it will no longer be about the serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, but about a new ‘monster’. This time, those responsible for the series deal with the case of brothers Lyle and Erik Menéndez, who murdered their parents on August 20, 1989.
