Oktoberfest: With this trick you don’t have to go to the toilet after every pint of beer Donald Trump Jr. complains about the X account – allegedly a victim of hackers

Almost everyone knows: As soon as you arrive at the party or in the festival tent at Oktoberfest and have actually just drank your beer, the blister becomes noticeable. You have to go to the toilet. Urgently. As quickly as possible.

Why is that? And do you really have to pee faster after a beer than after a glass of wine or water?

We give tips on how best to postpone going to the toilet and make it clear once and for all whether this is just imagination or whether there is some truth in the assumption that you go to the toilet faster after drinking beer. must.

Do you need to go to the toilet faster after a beer?

First of all, one rule that every beer lover should keep in mind: Never, ever pee after your first beer. Capish? Because if you break this golden rule, I have bad news: you’ll probably be waiting in line for the bathroom for the rest of the evening. In any case, a persistent beer drinking legend says that whoever resists this urge after the first beer will be spared from this plague.

But: can this also be scientifically proven?

One thing in advance: such a pint of beer is of course just a lot of liquid – no wonder the bladder compresses faster. But consuming alcohol actually reduces the release of ADH in our body for a period of time. This hormone ensures that our body retains fluid for longer in order to extract as many vital substances as possible.

If the release of ADH is suppressed by drinking beer, more urine is produced than if you had drunk the same amount of water, as ‘Vice’ reports. However, it takes a while for this effect to take effect. This is also why you usually have to go to the toilet so suddenly and quite quickly after consuming alcohol.

In addition: Carbon dioxide in the drink increases pressure on the bladder. So now you know why you have to pee more quickly after a beer – apart from the enormous amount – than after a glass of wine.

How do I cheat my bladder after drinking a beer?

Back to the golden rule of beer. Can you really end up in a negative pee spiral just because you make the mistake of going to the bathroom after your first beer?

Yes, that’s possible.

Our body is built in such a way that it does not cause too many problems if you suppress the urge to urinate for a while. In fact, you just push the problem away for a while so that you “forget” that you have to go to the toilet.

But when you empty your bladder for the first time after a beer, your brain switches back on. The urge to urinate is actually caused by so-called mechanoreceptors in the bladder. However, according to Vice, your brain must neurologically process this information before you actually feel the urge to go to the bathroom. So once you’ve gone to the toilet, your body becomes fully aware of the existence of your bladder again. The result: your brain will remind you to go to the toilet regularly for the rest of the evening.

In addition, the body wants to get rid of the neurotoxin alcohol as quickly as possible, as the nephrologist and therefore kidney specialist Dominik Müller from the Charité Berlin explained to “taz”.

A little hint: If you switch to non-alcoholic beer, you will have to go to the toilet less often. And if you stick to still water, you can really enjoy yourself on the dance floor in the evening – because without carbon dioxide and without alcohol you are guaranteed to pee less quickly.
