The Ukrainian counter-offensive has been going on for three months. Although there are always successes, retaking the conquered territories takes effort and, according to experts, a lot of patience. Despite the slow progress of the Ukrainians, the counter-offensive poses problems for the Russians. Explosive: Putin’s people see it that way too.
Of all people, ex-commander and Duma deputy Andrei Gurulyov (55) writes in his Telegram blog about the successes of the Ukrainian counterpart. The 55-year-old is usually enthusiastic about alleged Russian successes at the front – Gurulyov’s latest statements caused surprise in his own ranks.
“They have changed their battle tactics and have a lot of ammunition,” he writes about the Ukrainian armed forces. Ukraine uses significantly less armored vehicles and allows infantry to advance under the protection of drones and artillery. The Ukrainians now know how to deal with Russian minefields. “This situation forces our troops to retreat deeper.”
Another weakness of the Russians is the lack of efficiency in military helicopters. They can be easily shot down with surface-to-air missiles.
The 55-year-old is not alone in his opinion. The military correspondent of the Russian state news agency RIA Novosti, Alexander Kharchenko, sees it the same way. “The enemy has infinite nerves,” he said.
As a third point, Gurulyov adds the large number of unmanned Ukrainian drones. “They have a lot of drones and they use them wisely.” Finally, Gurulyov warns against “lies” within his own ranks. These would prevent the war from being won. “Lies separate us from victory. False reports lead to bad decisions on many levels. Let’s fight them, otherwise there will be trouble.”
Gurulyov was apparently further spurred on by the flood of comments below the entry. He continued: “In our reports, even the frontline information often does not match the factual information.”
Gurulyov’s statements led to a real shitstorm. According to his own statements, he had to remove more than 5,000 hate comments from his profile.
At the end, Gurulyov praises his own men: “We are stronger, our warriors are braver and more professional. We adapt, we persevere, we win.” He also blames the West for the Russians’ lack of progress. “NATO is fighting us with all its advanced technologies.” To deny this would be foolish, he says.
Gurulyov is considered a hardliner against Ukraine. At the beginning of the Russian war of aggression, he wants to see the enemy on the spot and “burn” them, as he said in 2022. He already waged war in Ukraine in 2014 and 2015 and was active in Syria. (An)
