Ukraine liberates another city in the east – the night update without photos Thousands storm the Oktoberfest in Munich – paramedics are already present

Ukraine takes the city of Klitschhiivka

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked the units involved for the recapture of the city of Klishchiivka in the east of the country. “Today I would like to particularly mention the soldiers who are gradually taking back Ukraine’s property, especially in the Bakhmut region,” Zelensky said in his daily video message on Sunday evening. «Klishchiivka. Beautiful boys,” he said.

The Ukrainian army had previously reported the recapture of the southern city of Bakhmut. “I can confirm that this was achieved thanks to the efforts of the 80th Air Assault Brigade, the 5th Assault Brigade and the Joint Brigade of the National Police “Ljut” (“Anger”),” the newspaper “Ukrainskaya Pravda” quoted the spokesman as saying. as Ilya Jewlash said on Sunday Army Group East. Hours earlier, the head of the presidential office in Kiev, Andriy Yermak, had published a photo on Telegram allegedly showing Ukrainian soldiers in the city in the Donetsk region. “Ukraine always takes back its own country,” Yermak wrote.

The Lyut Brigade released a video also announcing the capture of the city immediately south of the city of Bakhmut. “But the enemy keeps trying to reoccupy them,” said one of the soldiers, holding the Ukrainian flag and the flags of participating army units into the camera. The constant sound of battle can be heard in the background. So far no comments have been received from the Russian side. The warring parties’ reports often cannot be independently verified at first.

With the capture of Klishchiivka by Ukraine, the tactical situation of the Russian occupiers in Bakhmut deteriorated significantly. They now run the risk of being captured from the south and the north. Russians and Ukrainians had been fighting over Bakhmut in the Donetsk region for more than six months. The Russian armed forces mainly deployed mercenaries from Wagner’s private army here. At the end of May, Russia declared the city captured.

Explosions in Sevastopol – Moscow’s military reports drone shootings

According to media reports, several explosions took place in the port city of Sevastopol on Crimea’s Black Sea peninsula. The Russian Defense Ministry, on the other hand, simply announced on Sunday: “Two Ukrainian drones have been destroyed by air defenses over the southwestern part of the Crimean Peninsula.” Several Telegram channels published photos showing a blaze of fire above the city. Residents reported a strong burning smell. Russia annexed the Ukrainian peninsula in 2014, in violation of international law.

According to the Moscow-appointed governor of Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvoshayev, no infrastructure objects were hit. The port city is also the base of the Russian Black Sea Fleet. Raswoshayev explained the smell of fire with a smoke screen that the Navy had used to provide visual protection from the drones.

In recent days, Ukraine has attacked targets in Crimea several times with drones and cruise missiles. Among other things, a shipyard and two warships were damaged; a day later, according to information from Kiev, a modern S-400 anti-aircraft unit was also destroyed. Russia has not yet confirmed the loss of the S-400.

The Ukrainian Air Force reports progress in pilot training

According to official information, training of Ukrainian pilots on Western fighter jets is gaining momentum. “I can only say that the process is now seriously moving,” Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yuri Ihnat said on television on Sunday. He could not provide details because many Western countries do not want to make their involvement public. “The pilots are training and going through preparation,” he said. The respective heads of state would later announce in which countries they practiced.

Ukraine has been asking for Western fighter jets for months. There are commitments to supply US-built F-16 fighter jets, for example from Denmark, Norway and the Netherlands. In addition, several states have stated that they will participate in pilot training. What is known so far is that the first Ukrainian fighter pilots are already being trained in Denmark. According to Kiev, the first F-16s can intervene at the front in the spring of 2024.

Moscow confirms talks with Kim on grain, rail and port

Following Kim’s departure from Russia on Sunday, Moscow announced individual topics discussed during his five-day tour of the country’s Far East. Grain deliveries, the construction of a bridge over a border river and the revival of a railway line to a port were discussed, Russian Minister of Environment and Mineral Resources Alexander Kozlov said on his Telegram channel on Sunday. The resumption of regular air traffic between the two countries was also discussed. A government-level meeting is planned in Pyongyang in November.

During his tour of Russia, Kim also met Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin and showed great interest in his great neighbor’s aerospace technology. Putin had also discussed the potential for expanding military-technical cooperation.

Experts say North Korea could supply artillery ammunition and missiles for Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. In return, a transfer of modern Russian military technologies would be up for discussion. Pyongyang is particularly interested in missile and nuclear technology – even as Putin assured that Russia would comply with ongoing UN Security Council sanctions. There was no official information about an agreement in the military sector.

What will be important on Monday

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov receives his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Moscow for talks. According to Foreign Affairs spokeswoman Maria Sakharova, discussions will include Ukraine and stability and security issues in the Asia-Pacific region. (sda/dpa)
