The Swiss Eurocity still has no Oktoberfest fans

End of the live ticker

The 188th Oktoberfest in Munich opens on Saturday (12:00 noon) with the traditional tapping of the barrel. Traditionally, Munich Mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD) taps the first beer keg and then hands over the first pint of beer to Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU). The Bavarian capital expects around six million visitors to the world’s largest folk festival by October 3.

Despite friendly weather forecasts, those responsible for Oktoberfest are unsure how sales will pan out given high inflation and economic concerns. Prices for beer, food and rides rose. The price of beer has increased by more than six percent compared to the year before and is now between 12.60 euros and 14.90 euros per measure. (AFP)
