After the World Cup comes the European Championship: the Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand has just ended and many fans are now looking forward to enjoying the next big football event at Central European kick-off times. Because the 2024 European Championships will take place in Germany.
The European Championship is the first major football event to be held in Germany since the 2006 World Cup. The 2006 World Cup is still fondly remembered by many German fans as a ‘summer fairy tale’, as the tournament sparked unprecedented enthusiasm for football in the country. The euphoria brought the DFB team to third place. Switzerland performed rather average in 2006 and failed on penalties in the round of 16 against Ukraine.
In the northern neighboring country there is now great hope that Germany – despite the current crisis – will once again experience football euphoria, a summer fairytale 2.0, so to speak.
If you would like to be there, you will find all important information about tickets for the football spectacle here:
However, anyone who wants to buy tickets for the European Championship matches will have to be patient. The first pre-sale starts on October 3, 2023. You can, however, create an account with UEFA in advance for the registration phase that begins.
Since the end of last year, hospitality tickets have been available for particularly big fans. The premium packages include private catering and early access to the stadiums, but cost a maximum of 8,000 euros. With a corresponding ticket you then have access to all matches in a specific stadium.
Tickets for the European Championship are sold on the website of the European football association UEFA. Because there is often great interest in tickets for such major events, fans can first request tickets for specific matches and then a drawing will take place. According to UEFA, actual ticket sales will take place from March 2024.
As soon as all 32 participating teams are known, tickets may also be available via the websites of the relevant associations. It is also possible to buy tickets for the European Championship later through third-party providers, such as conventional ticket portals or travel agencies. If you buy from Ebay etc, be sure to have personalized tickets rewritten.
Ticket prices for the tournament in Germany have increased significantly compared to the finals in France in 2016 and the pan-European tournament in 2021.
Tickets in the cheapest category 3 cost 60 euros in the group stage, compared to 50 euros last year. In category two, fans must pay 150 euros per ticket, 25 euros more than in 2021. In the most expensive category, fans now pay 200 euros – 15 euros more than two years earlier.
But this year there is a special category for the entire tournament with the so-called “Fans First” cards. At the 2021 European Championship this only existed for the semi-finals and the final: these are places in the lower level behind the goals. In this category a ticket costs only 30 euros instead of 50 euros. But for regular fans, these will be hard to come by.
UEFA has set the ticket prices for the #EURO2024 announced in Germany. In many places it will be significantly more expensive compared to 2021 and 2016.
At the same time, UEFA and DFB organizers ultimately ruled out that there would be standing room.https://t.co/71UhUD6D9n pic.twitter.com/LeeZfYJoLX

The majority of these tickets are available to the 24 associations of the participating countries, who then distribute them to their supporters. Of the total 2.7 million tickets, 1.2 million will go on sale, one million will go to the national associations and 500,000 will remain with UEFA, its sponsors, partners and officials.
The three ticket categories are also available for the knockout matches after the group stage, but they will be even more expensive. From the quarter-finals onwards there will no longer be a ticket for less than 100 euros. In the final, the cheapest ticket costs 300 euros, category 2 tickets cost 600 euros and category 1 tickets cost 1,000 euros.
For comparison: ticket prices for the European Championship finals in London in 2021 ranged from just under 100 euros on the cheap side to as much as 954 euros on the more expensive side.
UEFA has also introduced a premium category for centerline seats. These tickets cost 50 to 133 percent more than the regular price of a Category 1 ticket.
In total, UEFA expects a ticket turnover of 300 million euros – excluding VIP tickets.
With Germany considered a pioneer of standing culture in stadiums, many fans had long hoped this would also be the case at the European Championships. But the DFB and UEFA put an end to that.
It was difficult to achieve a fair distribution due to the large number of fans of the home team and the small group of guests, explains Martin Kallen, director of the organizing subsidiary UEFA Events SA. A renovation would entail high costs, which, according to Kallen, the stadium operators do not want.
He also explained that the demand for standing places was not so great in all countries and that in discussions with UEFA “the police were against it”.
“It is a missed opportunity – in a country that has proven for decades that standing areas at football matches are absolutely safe.”criticized the fan alliance Football Supporters Europe (FSE) on Deutschlandfunk.
The European Championship matches will be played in 10 stadiums in Germany. These are the individual locations:
The opening match will take place on June 14 at the Allianz Arena in Munich. Exactly one month later, on July 14, the final of the European Championship will be held in the Olympic Stadium in Berlin. Germany automatically qualifies as host country.
A total of 32 teams will participate in the tournament. Except for Germany, the other teams must qualify for the 2022/2023 season via a European Championship qualifying round or via the Nations League.
On December 2, the draw will be held at the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie to determine who will play in which group at the 2024 European Championship. The official game plan for the preliminary round will then be determined.
