According to media reports, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un (39) may have left for a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin (70) in the neighboring country. There are signs that Kim has left Pyongyang on his special train and is heading to Russia.
The South Korean Yonhap news agency reported this on Monday, citing government officials in Seoul. There was initially no confirmation from North Korea or Russia.
US media recently reported, citing US officials, that Kim wanted to travel to Russia to negotiate arms supplies with Putin. Moscow’s goal is to secure the supply of weapons and ammunition for the war of aggression against Ukraine.
Kim’s visit could reportedly take place on the sidelines of an economic forum in Vladivostok scheduled for September 10-13. Putin had already met Kim in 2019 in the major city on Russia’s Pacific coast. In July, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu (68) visited North Korea, where he took part in a military parade. (SDA)
