G20 summit in India: China wants more cooperation with the EU North Korea has a submarine that can fire nuclear weapons – says North Korea

At the G20 summit in India, China called for greater cooperation with the European Union. China and Europe, as the two main drivers of global development, should work even closer together, Chinese Premier Li Qiang said in a conversation with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in New Delhi on Saturday. The Chinese state news agency Xinhua reported on Sunday evening about the meeting on the sidelines of the summit of major industrialized and emerging countries.

China is ready to work with Europe to host an EU-China summit this year and strengthen mutual trust, Li said, the report said. The development of the People’s Republic offers opportunities and not risks for Europe and the world. China hopes the EU will uphold its market economy principles and fair competition, creating a “non-discriminatory environment” for Chinese companies wanting to invest in Europe, Li said.

China faces tougher challenges in global competition. Some observers see the country as increasingly isolated. Given, among other things, China’s desire for power, there are efforts in the West to reduce economic dependence.

Number two traveled to the G20 summit with Li – head of state Xi Jinping was represented by him. Before the meeting, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Beijing emphasized several times that China attached “great importance” to the G20 format.

There is increasingly fierce competition and political conflict between G20 host India and the world’s second largest economy. China and the US are also embroiled in a trade dispute with Chinese companies subject to sanctions. The ship-and-train project announced on Saturday between the EU, the US and other partners is also likely to be a thorn in the side of the Chinese. The project is also seen as a response to China’s “New Silk Road” – an initiative through which the country is investing in infrastructure in many countries. (sda/dpa)
