Former Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin (37) wants to step down from her position as an MP to take up a new position at the Tony Blair Institute.
Marin said this on Thursday in a press conference broadcast by radio station Yle. The Tony Blair Institute for Global Change is a non-profit organization headquartered in London that advises governments around the world.
Marin said she won’t be moving to London for a while. However, the new job as a strategic advisor involves a lot of travel and is incompatible with her work as a member of parliament. That is why she submitted her resignation on Thursday, according to Marin.
Social Democrat Marin was elected Prime Minister of Finland in 2019. At the age of 34, she was for a time the youngest head of government in the world and enjoyed great popularity at home and abroad.
Despite winning, she and her Social Democrats lost the Finnish parliamentary elections in April. (SDA)
