Another Ukrainian city fell victim to Putin’s rain of bombs. The target of the Russian attack this time was the eastern Ukrainian city of Kostjantynivka. At least 16 people, including a child, were killed in Wednesday’s rocket attack.
The bombs fell in the heart of the city, not far from markets, pharmacies and other shops. Natalia, who lives and works in Kostyantynivka, was also in the thick of it. The young woman sustained injuries to her arm in the attack.
She spoke to the Ukrainian online newspaper Strana about the devastating attack. At the time of impact, she was near her trading pavilion. It’s hard to say what she did after the missile hit. “I was in shock and ran back and forth. Everyone was panicking, people were screaming.”
Her hometown is often shot, says Natalia. Yet she still resides there and does not go to the west of the country. “They don’t give us jobs, they hate us in Western Ukraine. Nobody needs us,” says the Ukrainian. For this reason, she will continue to work at the market in Kostyantynivka.
Kostyantynivka is located a little less than 20 kilometers southwest of the town of Bakhmut, which the Russians occupied a few months ago during their war of aggression and which has repeatedly fallen into the crosshairs of the Russians. Only in July did Ukraine propose to use a cluster bomb against Russia in Kostyantynivka, killing a child.
“This Russian evil must be defeated as soon as possible,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, 45, wrote on Wednesday after the missile strike. Moscow authorities have not yet commented on the allegations. (dzc)
